Wrinkles
Wrinkle Facts
Rhytides, commonly known as wrinkles, are an unsightly and irritating problem. Changes brought on by sun damage (photoaging) makes our faces look much older than we would like, and certainly older than we feel. Initially they may start as dynamic wrinkles, along our squint lines near the eyes or foreheads creases, but they eventually deepen into permanent lines.
Although wrinkles can signify wisdom, most of us would rather not have them. Fortunately, there is hope because today there are many products and procedures that hold the promise of reducing your wrinkles. Skin ages all over your body, but the most damage appears on the parts of your body where sun exposure is greatest. Your face, neck, the backs of your hands, and the tops of your forearms are what people notice. Changes brought on by sun damage include: dryness, roughness, sagginess, keratoses, age spots, facial veins, and wrinkles.
Fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and mouth are a normal part of the aging process. Wrinkles occur naturally as subcutaneous fat and skin elasticity is lost. The face having a much shallower layer of subcutaneous tissue is one of the first places that wrinkles will appear. Add in the damage that frequent sun exposure does to the skin and it is no wonder that many women have skin that makes them look older than they really are.
Wrinkles come in two categories: fine surface lines and deep furrows. Wrinkle treatments are in general much more effective for fine lines. Deeper creases may require more aggressive techniques, such as skin-resurfacing techniques, fillers, and cosmetic injectables.
Wrinkles Overview
No one likes wrinkles, which are caused when collagen breaks down deep in your dermis, far below the skin’s top layer. How many wrinkles you have is largely determined by genetics but luckily you now have several options to help you prevent wrinkles and reduce the signs of aging.
The last decade has seen an incredible amount of new research into a variety of topics including why our skin ages and how to prevent it from doing so. Dramatic improvements in laser technology and injectable fillers have helped millions of people look and feel more beautiful. A surplus of FDA-approved devices has shown great improvement in reducing wrinkles in your epidermis and collagen building in the dermis layer of your skin.
